Overview
Xin and Piao are war orphans during the warring states era in China that are living as servants, that dream of becoming the greatest Generals in history. One day a court official shows up to bring Piao to work at the Palace as a official, leaving Xin behind. However not long after Piao shows up where Xin is living, nearing death, and before Piao breathes his last, he asks Xin to travel to a certain location in the middle of a village known to be a stronghold for outlaws. Most of the char, and places are real, but the actual scenario its self is fictional, yet still very realistic.
Personal Opinion
This is a high end great, and a epic series to say the least. The story is even better then what you would find in China's live action Wuxia series, It's that well executed, and has that much diversity to it. The char are very well developed, most with interesting back stories, I would even say some of the best backstories, and all the key char have a good deal of complexity to them. It's an exceedingly realistic anime, It has the best, most realistic, and intense fights in anime history. The music in the actual anime is very good/fitting, although the opening, and ending songs really don't fit at all.
The Art is great, the scenes, and scene execution is beyond superb, easily among the best of the best in anime history. There's a lot of strategy, political intrigue, and such in this anime, so if you like anime that make you think, there probally aren't many anime that can even hold a candle to this anime in that respect, there's "a lot" going on in this anime. This might very well be the best overall executed anime ever made, everything is balanced to near perfection, and is treated with the same care/given the same effort.
This is a anime, that as long as you're into the genre/similar genres in general, you can not, not like this anime.
Note: If, and when future seasons come out, I'll update this review as needed to reflect such.

Please help support the Development of Shenmue 3
First I would like to correct a misunderstanding, Sony "is not" backing the "development" of Shenmue 3, It's being almost entirely funded by the gaming community through Kickstarter, all Sony is gonna be handling, is Publishing, and marketing, when it gets finished, I repeat, Sony "is not" funding the development of Shenmue 3.
Here's the link to the Kickstarter page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ysnet/shenmue-3
Keep in mind, the initial goal is just enough to develop "something", any funds after that will be used to further develop the game, inshort, the more funding they have, will ultimately lead to a much better game in the end.
